Merilee founded UndertheDoormat in July 2014. Prior to this she spent 13 years at Shell managing the company’s Retail global strategy & alliance management and oversaw its global petrol site maintenance.
Merilee left Shell to found UndertheDoormat, a sharing economy startup in the accommodation sector. The inspiration for the company came from her own travelling experiences in 70 different countries, spending time with locals,
benefitting from their personal recommendations and learning from their local perspectives, giving her the most rewarding memories. Her vision for
UndertheDoormat is to provide modern travelers the opportunity to enjoy the local experience and homeowners to access the value from them their homes to help fund their own travel with a trusted company to manage it all for them– for the moment in London, but in time building the brand across major world cities.
Born in the USA and now an adopted Brit, Merilee also sits on the Board of Directors for the Hunger Project, has an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management, and likes to “relax” by competing in triathlons. Merilee sits on the UK Government’s Sharing Economy Task Force and is a member of the industry bodies, Sharing Economy UK and UKShareCo.
